Rules

  1. Think about what we wish to share
  2. Actively consider how your social media presence affects others. This will inspire us all to make more thoughtful posts. Don’t share content that mocks someone or a group or community
  3. Lead by example
  4. Our social influence is strongest when showing others how to act, rather than dictating to them.
  5. Break old patterns
  6. It takes just one person acting differently to reduce peer pressure or online hostility.
  7. We get what we give back
  8. Behaving cordially towards others will encourage them to respond in kind.
  9. Build a positive reputation
  10. Being kind will make people more likely to want to communicate with and follow us.
  11. Think about whose content we wish to consume
  12. If someone we follow posts or shares content that is aggressive and not constructive, this could make our social media feed a less kind place.
  13. We will block and report accounts that abuse others on social media
  14. Reporting abusive accounts on social media can pressurise the platform into reviewing the account or removing the offensive content.
  15. Choose conscious connections
  16. Even small authentic acts of kindness can create strong social bonds over the long run.

An ability to discuss and debate public policy free of retribution, intimidation and cancellation should be nearly as sacred as our freedom of speech and civil rights.

Reject hate-mongering. Although passionate advocacy will always be valued, Americans should refuse to support leaders or groups — inside and outside of government — who push evil caricatures or stereotypes, unsubstantiated accusations, name-calling and threats as a means of advocacy.

The world should reject the notion that debate and seeking common ground are weaknesses or treasonous. They are at the core of democracy and our existence.
